I was just watching the Braziian F1 qualifying, during which it was 
raining almost constantly; sometimes pouring. All the photographers, 
by appearance of their lenses both Nikon and Canon had rain capes 
over their equipment. I'd imagine that almost all had D3's and 
1DIII's so reasonably sealed.

In the end you have to keep in mind that nothing is truly waterproof. 
Even submarines have bailing systems. I constantly have to keep 
reminding clients of that who want to 'waterproof' their buildings.
