Bofors would eventually make a famous gun to bear its name, the 40mm Bofors. The Bofors was an anti-aircraft rapid-firing gun capable of firing 2 lb shells at 3,000 ft/sec at a rate of 120 rounds/minute. These guns were so good the US Army and Navy used them in WWII, the British Army & Navy used them, even Germany and Japan used them. We still use the Bofors as part of the weapons system of the Spooky AC-130 gunship. And for the world's mightiest armies and navies 70 years ago to put aside nationalism and all agree to use one weapon system, albeit against one another, we can thank Alfred Nobel. > On Sat, Oct 10, 2009 at 12:19 AM, Steve Barbour <steve.barbour at > gmail.com> wrote: > >> On Oct 9, 2009, at 6:27 AM, Ric Carter wrote: >> >> >>> I might also add though that I think this award is always given to >>> encourage hope. >>> >> so true, worth mentioning in this context....in spite of/because Afred >> Nobel >> was the inventor of dynamite, >> >> Steve >> >>> ric >>> >>> >>> On Oct 9, 2009, at 9:22 AM, Ric Carter wrote: >>> >>> >>>> well said >>>> >>>> ric >>>> >>>> >>>> On Oct 9, 2009, at 8:59 AM, Tina Manley wrote: >>>> >>>> >>>>> I think it's probably the first time the Nobel Peace Prize has been >>>>> given for hope.
