While many Nobels are given for past accomplishment, the Peace Prize
is also given to people pointing in the right direction. It's purpose
is to push in the direction of world peace--sometimes that is by
rewarding past work, other times it is putting another shoulder behind
those pushing that way.

I believe this one is also given for the very real accomplishment of
pushing American foreign policy from the bully end of the spectrum to
the cooperative partner end.

It is also given for the symbol he is to many that there is hope for
change in the world--that is as a black man being elected leader of a
racially troubled country.
