There were two other spectators to my immediate left, and it would have necessitated bowling them over to get the different perspective. If I waited to jockey for position, the song would have ended. That's the problem with capturing moments--sometimes you have to juggle an almost-perfect vantage point when there's the perfect action, or a less-than-perfect focal length for a situation. I was also fighting the huge contrast in light coming through the trees: if I tried to shoot them face-on, the light over the right-hand lady's head would have backlit them both. That would have put the profile of the woman on the right against a dark area, so her face would be more legible. In B&W especially, it always pays to try and get separation of tones to make the image have visual clarity. I love backlighting in B&W because it can provide this. I always look forward to your pictures - the frequency of your posts and my slim output lately make me feel like a camera carrier, not a photographer, so I hope you don't mind the comment above.
