Joseph, I'm sure Ernie can give you his procedure. I have never bothered with the Olympus software that came with my E-510. I use PS Elements 6.0, which allows me to connect my camera directly to a USB port and place the jpeg and RAW files in a folder of my choice. I then use the jpegs to get a rough assessment of the images, and load the ORF images of my choice into the RAW converter for processing. The entire process is very straightforward.
