I can attest that they are always technically superb too. I do use different capture sharpening routines, basically one for landscape like shots and another for portraits. My view is that all digital Raw files benefit from some capture sharpening. I use a separate output sharpening routine dependant on the end use. Web is one treatment, print another. I use the PKSharpen plug-in. LUG print group members may have opinions on whether these work well and others have larger prints on hand from me too. Printing to 12 inches x 18 inches, my M8 Raw files are demonstrably superior to those from my scanned Fuji pro films. Those need significantly more output sharpening too. There are a lot more optical steps in that instance, obviously. 2009/6/1 George Lottermoser <imagist3 at mac.com> > Yes, of course, I make prints. > > You may ask members of the LUGprint group about my print quality. > The group (about 15 of us) just received a set of prints this past week. > > comments on the current set of prints are currently being posted at > <http://lugprints.blogspot.com/> > > I have made darkroom prints professionally > since I was 16 years old and working in a commercial photo studio; > where I began at 14 as the weekly cleaning guy. > > I've printed enlargements from every format > from 35 mm through 8x10 > both negatives and transparencies > using cibachrome, color neg, b&w; > as well as 11x14 and 12x20 contact prints. > > I've printed for both reproduction and exhibition. > I have printed b&w in my own darkroom up to 30x40. > as seen here <http://www.imagist.com/art/jellich/interior_02.html> > > I have sold portrait, event, commercial > and fine art prints of my work > since 1968. > > Most recently I've had a 13x19 print > accepted for the juried show "Wisconsin Photography 2009" > opening this fall. > > Regards, > George Lottermoser > george at imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com/blog > http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist > > On May 31, 2009, at 4:12 PM, Mark Rabiner wrote: > > Do you make prints? >> >> >> Mark William Rabiner >> >> >> >> From: George Lottermoser <imagist3 at mac.com> >>> Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> >>> Date: Sun, 31 May 2009 12:49:06 -0500 >>> To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> >>> Subject: [Leica] M8 Sharpening filter use - was: full sized samples >>> >>> I'd love to hear from M8 (and DMR) shooters >>> on their use of "sharpening." >>> >>> I don't use, or think about, sharpening >>> beyond what comes out of the M8 and DMR RAW files >>> into Lightroom. >>> >>> How about other M8 and DMR users? >>> >> >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Leica Users Group. >> See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >> > > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information > -- Cheers Geoff 'Life's not B&W, except at both ends' http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/gh/ http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman
