"Dinner for One", the short sketch with Freddie Frinton and May Warden, is one of those strange things that has become a "Must See" on German TV too. Almost everyone here knows the sketch and "The same procedure as last year" has become an integral part of the German language. Strangely enough, the sketch is almost unknown in the UK, although Freddie Frinton was a very popular music hall act there for many years and famous for his portrayal of a drunken "Toff" in top hat and tails - this is quoted in the sketch with his short burst of song "Sugar in the morning...". He also recited many pieces, short stories and poems in Yorkshire dialect (although he was born in Lincolnshire) - also heard in the voice of Mr Winterbottom. He appeared regularly in a TV music hall series broadcast from the City Varieties theatre in my home town of Leeds, which had both audience and stage acts in Victorian costume. The rest of the week, the theatre was a dingy and rather disreputable strip club. The Wikipedia page on him is quite interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Frinton Cheers Douglas J?rn Smedsgaard wrote: > Hi?
