Subject: [Leica] The 2008 LUG Yearbook Has Begun--PLEASE READ!
From: jshul at comcast.net (Jim Shulman)
Date: Sun Nov 30 06:47:01 2008

A day early, but then since I will be away all of tomorrow (Dec 1), I wanted
to give the group a full month of submissions.

Rules are the same as with last year's book:

1.Anyone can submit images-however, these images must have been captured
during the PAST YEAR (Jan 1, 2008 to the present.)

2. The images could have been produced with any camera/lens/film/sensor
combination, though we naturally prefer Leica images. This topic has been
discussed extensively in the past-while we all love, admire, and use Leica
cameras, sometimes the ideal image presents itself when we happen to have
our Leica equipment elsewhere. Rather than lose the image, we allow
alternatives.

2. Up to TWO images per person can be submitted. Image size must be at
least one meg, though larger files (up to about six or seven megs) are OK.
Please include your name, the title(s) of the images, and any technical
information (camera/lens/film (if applicable)) Please submit in .jpg
format.

3. New this year for the very fastidious: Blurb technical specifications for
printing. Blurb, realizing the importance of photographers and fine art
specialists to their business, has included a service for adjusting photos
for optimum reproduction. You can read more about this at www.blurb.com
NOTE: If you adjust your image according to their specifications and send it
to me, that's fine. However, I WILL NOT ADJUST IMAGES AT MY END (I lack the
technical expertise.) Please do not ask.

4. Images accepted until December 31, 2008. The book will be made available
early January 1, 2009 for ordering. As with previous books, there is no
requirement to purchase a copy, nor will I feel bereft if you don't. Books
will be available for purchase in either paperback or hardcover versions.
The first fifteen pages will be available for preview on the blurb.com
website. As with previous efforts, please submit images sooner rather than
later-it makes for a much easier job on my end!!!

I will reply to each participant with an acknowledgement that your pictures
are in the book, and with a proof of your caption. If you don't hear back
from me, assume that I didn't get your images!!!!! If there are any errors
in your caption, speak up!

The book will be produced if at least 30 photographers participate. Last
year we had over 100 participants, for a book that exceeded 250 pages.

WONDERFUL NEWS: Dr. Ted Grant has provided a forward for the Yearbook. He
will also be taking up the traditional mantle of hectoring photographers in
the group to submit images. Thank you, Ted!

Theme of this Year's Book: Ever Adaptable. Considering the extensive
discussion this year about adapting new equipment to old, the theme will be
on just that. Perhaps I'll use an M8 with a Visoflex or SOOKY on the cover
<g>. However, unlike the monthly contests your images DO NOT HAVE TO MATCH
THE THEME!!! Submit whatever you like.

All images, etc. PLEASE offline to jshul@comcast.net DO NOT SEND YOUR
IMAGES TO THE LIST!!!

Best wishes,

Jim Shulman
