One was to have photos of each gun for insurance purposes, hence also took some macro-shots of serial numbers which I did not post on LUG for obvious reasons. Second, I belong to an handgun forum and the folks there were anxious to see the collection. They also had questions about lightbox shooting, which they had never done. I wanted to give them a taste (albeit amateur taste) of it. You are correct that lighting is only one element and is what I concentrated on the most. Any constructive input on the other items also would be welcome. I was honest about the shortfalls I knew were in some of the pictures due to equipment malfunction. Unlike some of you pros and advanced amateurs I don't have multiple tripods. I did my best with what I had. And to answer Mark's question, I used a Canon 10D with 28-135 3.5-5.6IS (yes a consumer lens, but the only L lens own was not suited for this use). I know this is a Leica list and I do have Leica M gear, but not what is needed for this type of work. I suppose I should have realized this would provoke some negative comments because of the subject. Next time I'll try watches, Mont Blancs, fountain pens or single-malt Scotch (if that can be photographed). <G> Rob On Nov 29, 2008, at 6:41 PM, Lottermoser George wrote: > To answer the question regarding the photography > it would be helpful to know: > What were you trying to accomplish photographically? > product glamour? > clear documents? > editorial illustration? > or? > besides lighting one needs to consider: > background > framing > etc > > Fond regards, > George > > george@imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com/blog > http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist > > > > On Nov 29, 2008, at 4:51 PM, rob mcclure wrote: > >> Seriously (and the above comments were a weak attempt at humor), I >> would appreciate some input and suggestions on the actual photos, >> particularly the lighting.
