Frank, yep. I've never seen rangefinder white-out though. I do find
frame-lines in post M3 M's harder to find if my eye position is imperfect.  
My M3 won't show me frames for my 35 or 28 or a 24 if I could get one! It
sucks for digital capture too and the meter reading is really hard to see.

Maike Harbets speaks on the S2. .... So we will drop down this technology to
our other systems.
Our priority is to modernise the R system which will be in the end an R10,
definitely.

The M3 rangefinder/viewfinder assembly is a completely different design to
M2 and subsequent units, and is no longer available. The M2 unit is less
expensive to make and, because of this and the popularity of the wider angle
of view it became the standard, the differences between subsequent designs
were small, but in some cases, such as the whiteout of M6 rangefinder
window, not negligible.
