I do not think so. Lange & Sohne is from the Glashutte region of what  
was East Germany. Because of the political/economic situation there  
mechanical watches continued to be made in this area when the quartz  
watch explosion pretty well bankrupted the mechanical watch business  
in the West.
Many of the up-market Swiss brands merged rather than go under. Very  
few craftsmen are trained. OTOH in Glashutte there are many excellent  
craftsmen still. IIRC the West German family which used to own Lange  
more or less re-started the top quality models after the wall fell.
I believe you are right about an American starting IWC.
