You can use the M8 just like you use the MP with slide film whenever you want. Really what you gain is the photo lab gets a lot more productive. Of course everybody of us is thinking when is shooting...., but this is for me a little bit loss the sense of the unique... I'm also a lover of the classic cinema, one of his charachteristics was that with a few media they expressed great ideas, now the cinema, with some rare exceptions, has become a expressive media of fantastic and impressive images and dialogues.
