Tina,

Yes, earthquakes keep us in a constant state of terror.  The last really 
damaging quake in the San Diego area
was in 1935.  Just minutes in geologic time.

BTW, I live just on the edge of the Rose Canyon Fault in La Jolla  
What., me worry? :-)
