I was born in a totalitarian country and lived there the first 11 years of my life. Later, when I came to Denmark, I was constantly frustrated by this kind of statement made by my naive Danish friends, to the effect that the USSR and the USA were equally bad. A fundamental difference is this: in the USA you can question the government's actions, you can demonstrate against Guantanamo, you can call the president a criminal, you can read and write anything you want in any forum that will accept your writings. In China, actions like these will land you in jail, for several years. IT IS NOT THE SAME!!!
