Images wouldn't have worked without it, for me. And ND filters to slow things down. Even at 50 ISO, sometimes you need to slow things down a bit... I use a polarizer almost always for landscapes unless it has no impact... Is there software that can replace a polarizer? I've looked at NIKs attempt and it's not close IMO. Is there a way via software introduce a slower shutter speed? Love to hear of one. So no polarizer on the 14-24? No ND on the 14-24? This doesn't work for me. More options is more better... Granted this is only my opinion fitting how I shoot. Not what the M was truly designed for (fast hand held shooting; definitive moment acquisition), but what I enjoy using it for a lot (slow, composed landscapes, one good shot an outing if I am VERY lucky). Pretty much what I do (did) with film...
