However, look at it from a hobbyist point of view. The UV-Nikkor and the Coastal Optics 60mm and 105mm UV lens would be really nice to have, but the cost is prohibitive for the casual shooter. The M8 offers a readily available alternative since so many of us own one. The cost is a couple of filters in addition to equipment we already own. The very sensitive sensor makes it work even though the Leica coated lenses will cost you a few stops in sensitivity. While I have a specially modified Nikon D1X and use both enlarging and uncoated lenses with it, I find the M8 much easier to use and with useable sensitivity. I also find it is fun plus it satisfies my thirst for experimentation.
