Some like the look, some don't. The software is a (if not the most) significant contributor to the digital imaging chain (given a reasonable sensor and lens.) http://www.francis-web.com/Photography/album/Misc/DxO%20Examples/slides/ Light-House-DxO-Crop.html http://www.francis-web.com/Photography/album/Misc/DxO%20Examples/slides/ Light-House-Raw-Crop.html -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+michael.francis=gs.com@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+michael.francis=gs.com@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Lottermoser George Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2008 11:36 AM To: Leica Users Group Subject: Re: [Leica] How to get an M8 for $3200... While I don't doubt that software can heal many wounds; and plays an extremely important role in the work flow; I can't imagine that the qualities of the lens plays an equally important role. An apo lens which performs without color fringing or spectral focus errors has to produce a finer image file than a non apo lens which shows fringing, spectral focus errors and chromatic aberations which are then corrected in software. The software corrections have to be interpolations (guesses and assumptions) of data; filling in the blanks.
