I have been thinking that with the 280 I might have a 560 with the 2x which would be about as long as I could hold on the monopod I suspect. Or even the 2x APo as well. On a long trip, weight can be an issue. With the 180/2 (my favourite R lens), adding the extenders doesn't lose you much in image quality at all.
