In my tests on the 280mm APO-Telyts (both f/2.8 and f/4) the 1.4x APO- Extender causes a barely perceptible loss of image detail. Generally not enough to notice in real-world circumstances. the 2x APO-Extender will cause a bit more degradation but in most cases not enough to be a problem (and I'm very fussy about image quality).
