There are pre press people in the world. Those people are not photographers; they work in print shops. I say leave them alone! Let them do the jobs they were trained to do and we were not. As to yesterday I believe if the book shows flatter results than what we are getting its probably because we are laying down more ink at slower settings or hopefully pigment on hopefully better paper than a book. Hopefully its not because we are using that semi glass plastic stuff. Which has a wider gamut. But reeks with plasticy not niceness. The best article imaginable on paper and printing in this age is this issue of Photo Techniques. The papers everyone everything about now if they are not full rag are Byrata imitative of real fiber darkroom papers dried down from F. Not imitative of plastic garbage RC papers which nobody ever liked anytime anyhow. The paper I use usually is %100 rag inkjet paper. It does an amazing job of of imitating %100 rag inkjet paper. Looking at it you'd think it was %100 rag inkjet paper. Made with an Epson. Does this make me want to kill myself? - low on my list. The way to pre Blurb yourself is to make stuff look good on your screen. Maybe make a small project book so you can see what's going on; Then with that information planted in the back of ones soft brain matter print to pixel on your screen normally like one would do for a pixel gallery or website then just send if off like they'd like you to. Their book is not going to match your screen any more than any print you'd ever print. I'd not obsess on it. Its a book; Not a stack of prints. But we have a suspension of disbelief. Architecture with choreography notes in the margins. Energy changing from one form to the next. USE YOUR IMAGINATION! Its raining. Will all the fireworks be put out? I'm going to soft pop an M80. mark@rabinergroup.com Mark William Rabiner > From: Ken Carney <kcarney1@cox.net> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug@leica-users.org> > Date: Fri, 4 Jul 2008 12:32:46 -0500 > To: 'Leica Users Group' <lug@leica-users.org> > Subject: RE: [Leica] Blurb books > > Hi, Pablo > > I believe Blurb printers use the HP Indigo Press 5000 (4-color press). > > Ken > >> -----Original Message----- >> From: lug-bounces+kcarney1=cox.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug- >> bounces+kcarney1=cox.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Pablo Kolodny >> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2008 11:59 AM >> To: Leica Users Group >> Subject: Re: [Leica] Blurb books >> >> For the least I know of Blurb's printing jobs are just laser, none of >> inkjets >> >> Pablo >> >> On Jul 4, 2008, at 12:23 PM, Ken Carney wrote: >> >>> Mark, >>> >>> That's all true, of course.
