Since we don't have guns, and since my wife says that she will refuse to deal with any dead bird not bought in a supermarket or at least from a butcher who has already removed the feathers and innards, the solution that seems most applicable is this one, suggested by Roger on the PAD list: http://absolutebirdcontrol.com/scareballoon.htm Thanks again to everyone who looked, commented and gave advice.
