George and others lay out technical information explaining improvement
possibilities and my thoughts are always .. "gee it's too bad we as a group
can't put together a yearly LUG gathering where we can learn, try and
observe the technical aspects described in the posts?

And best of all meet and hand shake the names on the screen. But it's
technical stuff one on one that would be the greatest benefit to all!

I'm not sure how this can be done but someone who has the experience might
have a thought about it for later in the year or a solid gathering for 2009.
What think you lads and lasses?

I look at exposure alterations in post processing more as if making a

light or darker print then having any effect on the virtual negative.

As far as the virtual RAW negative is concerned - if the highlights

are blown they're blown there's no retrieving them in post

processing. And on the other end - when you've reached the threshold

of introducing noise into the shadows - whatever post process fixes

you may apply - the shadow will remain messy.

Similarly, what ever you can do to achieve proper WB in your lighting

will make life easier in post. If you've got cross-over happening -

you've got color problems - even though the post process software

allows you to tweak to your heart's content.

Digital is super wonderful for what one can fix in post processing.

RAW is amazing compared to other capture formats. But using the best

craftsmanship before pushing the button still gives the finest end -

just as with film.

Fond regards,

George
