Arche,

You are much more "with it" than am I.  My late father-in-law used very 
sharp pencils to retouch 4x5 and 5x7 negatives, as well as vignetting tools, 
to create beautiful portraits for his customers. He also created montages. I 
often think of the work he put into the job when I make simple corrections 
in PS.
