The times I have gotten into trouble seem to be related to the fact that I didn't realize how much processing LR does in the background. I would shut it down when I finished what I was doing, restart it later do more editing, shut it down, etc. until it froze. This was mostly when I was importing a lot of old folders of photos to "load up" the library. I think I just overloaded it a couple of times with old and new tasks, and the dumbest part of this behavior is that it doesn't really tell you what it is doing. I have not had this problem on a desktop if I just leave LR open and walk away when I'm done. I have to admit that I'm using it less and less on my laptop.
