There are machines that quickly and easily turn negatives into digital files.
They are called "scanners"

There are machines that easily and quickly turn digital files into
negatives.
  They are called "film recorders".

Unfortunately, all of the manufacturers have pretty much stopped making
them
because the world stopped buying them, except for the motion picture
industry, which still uses them to make film reels for distribution to
theaters that do not yet have digital projection.

I used a DICOMED for a while; it was a nice toy. I heard that the Kodak
LVT
machines were wonderful, but Kodak stopped making them about 5 years ago.
I
think some company bought Agfa's film recorder business and still makes
them.
