What helped here is that I used the film latitude, or lack of latitude, to create an effect. I don't have lights. I would like to, but I don't have any. I have a few tricks to make do with available light. Window light, coming from the side, usually makes for nice portraits: http://www.dlridings.se/paw/2007/14.html http://www.dlridings.se/paw/2006/41.html http://www.dlridings.se/paw/2005/34.html http://www.dlridings.se/paw/2003/33.html I wanted a dark background, to neutralize it. I asked Rebecca to stand on the threshold of the open door leading from our living room to our backyard and I metered for that positon, of course. The light from the door drops off rapidly in the room and it recedes into dark in a hurry. The contrast between the correct exposure on the threshold and the underexposure in the room helps to create the nice effect. It's something similar to this one, when it comes to exposure: http://www.dlridings.se/paw/2007/20.html That one was also Xtol and Agfapan APX 400. Thanks for asking!
