i am an old unix hacker, and when i run anything, be it linux
or osx or xp, i always run as an unprivileged user, unless
i am specifically installing software or making system
changes. therefore, if something bad somehow does get
executed as regular user, it could delete my home directory
and all my files, but not mess up /usr and /etc. restoring
a user directory, or even an entire user volume is
much less horrible than an entire system and boot volume.

is that still good policy after 25 years?
