Then find an edge in the plane of focus, say the iris of an eye. At a medium speed turn the focusing ring until the two images just come together and stop. My 75 is pretty d*&mn sharp in the center 1/3 to 2/3 even wide open so no other sharpening than normal. The contrast compared to the new designs is less so you might adjust your curves to fit or enjoy the slightly smoother look. YMMV.
