I have a Powerbook G4 with 1.25 GB memory, and it runs both Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop Elements 4 (and Lightroom, my currently preferred tool) at very good speeds. In Photoshop, I make sure that I allocate 80% of the memory to the program instead of the default 50%. Of course, it could also be that our definitions of what constitutes an acceptable speed vary. My reference is my Windows desktop with 2 GB of memory, and the Powerbook is just as fast even though it has less memory.
