Len,

My Summitar is also from 1949, and I had it serviced a couple of years ago 
because the aperture ring was stiff.  It came back in good shape.  I think 
they are definitely worth the investment.  I did not feel the same about my 
Summarit, so I traded it for the Summitar.  At today's prices, it was a poor 
trade, but it made me happy at the time.
