What you would call beer is referred to here as lager and it has become increasingly popular, very few youngsters drink traditional English beer. It is drunk very cold - probably colder than white wine. I am not a lager lover and always claim the colder the better because the colder it is the less it tastes ;-) Personally I like red wine and traditional (English) beer. I pretty well never drink white wine or lager, although when we lived near Sancerre we drank quite a lot of the local wine, though I still preferred the Sancerre rouge to the much better known blanc. It is rarely hot enough here for a lager to be an attractive proposition for its temperature alone!
