Howard,
Quit beating your head against the wall.  Acquire a USB2 card reader and use
that.  Faster, no fear of the battery dying while downloading, clean and
simple.  Free with some memory cards but not more than $20 retail.  2GB in a
couple of minutes with no pain is a good thing.
