The pixel pitch includes the space between the actual photosites but this is rendered irrelevant by the microlenses anyway. AFAIK the statement that film is binary is true though I am not and expert, it won't be a question of opinion but a matter of simple science. He points out the irony of the difference between binary chemistry and analogue pre-sampled digital succinctly. This is an old analysis which is well established.
