No plastic, except for the lens cap. The 50/2.8 Elmar I bought new a couple 
of years back is silver with a metal silver cap.

Build quality of the new 28 asph Elmarit is comparable to my Zeiss 21/2.8 
and 25/2.8 lenses and certainly not better.
