Have you seen the glycemic index for white bread? Stick to wholewheat (not brown) bread. The key to a good diet is fibre - which comes from sauteed (lightly cooked) vegetables, fruits, nuts, salads, unrefined grains etc, and eaten without dunking them in stuff like mayonnaise. If you need dressing squeeze a lemon. Eat 5 small meals a day - which does not cause overload on the system and will keep you from snacking. This sort of eating takes discipline, though.
