I hope the Native Americans don't find out what you named that island! =========================== Jeffery, I wrote "Indian land," not "island." I meant that gambling is only allowed on reservations Around here the word "Indian" is still widely used among the tribes and is interchangeable with "Native American." Yesterday I saw a bumper sticker that read "Indian and proud of it." A lot of official terminology retains the "Indian" reference too (Indian Health Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, etc.). I've worked as a consultant to the Navajo area office of the Indian Health Service and have had quite a few discussions about this, both with Natives and non-Natives. Right now as I'm typing this I hear a radio commercial for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. And right off the Santa Fe Plaza you'll see the "Museum of the American Indian." A few years ago I was visiting the Jemez Pueblo and even saw some Jemez men wearing Washington Redskin hats and t-shirts, so go figure. ;-) -- Phil Swango 307 Aliso Dr SE Albuquerque, NM 87108 505-262-4085 _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
