Sure they took a long time to forgive the US and Britain for liberating France, but that's national pride - we would probably all think a little like that in their shoes. And they've never liked US cultural imperialism, as defined by Hollywood and Macdonalds, preferring their own rather more highbrow alternatives. Don't blame 'em. That used to extend to the use of English, but these days, these Internet days, many actually prefer to speak English. If US tourists aren't made to feel welcome now, it's either as a result of antipathy towards the current administration, or far more likely because the tourists themselves are behaving boorishly. That the French cannot stand, and who can blame them. Paris isn't my favourite city, but that's because I've had to go there too many times for work; however, it is a beautiful and fascinating one, and the inhabitants are much the same as those of any other capital city - too rushed to be really polite, but generally decent people. And some of the best shops stuffed with Leicas I've ever seen! Perhaps I expected more because my father spent a year in a German POW camp after trying to liberate Paris. His father did some time in the trenches circa 1917/18 for the same reason. Go figure?
