Mark,

Don't know about the 3800 but the rip with the 4000 enables you to do more
neutral black and whites prints and more accurate pre press proofs...but
they are complicated and you need callibration equipment to tune the
system.  If you think color flow/conrtrol in photoshop and on the web is
complicated, don't get the rip, it's even more complicated.
