But if the Nikon SP + 35/1.8 ever comes down in price to within reach of us guys, I'll consider it. Why spend $5K on the dumbed-down version of an SP, especially for a camera that doesn't come with the 35mm lens? Remember all the hoo-hah about how reproducing an SP would be cost-prohibitive--and then it appeared, with a 35/1.8? So ironically, it's a great entry point for new high-quality film rangefinder gear. Jim Shulman Bryn Mawr, PA Who saw an auction of THAT SITE last week for an original SP, 35/1.8, 50 1.4, and 105 2.5, all with original cases and literature (including the original sales receipt) for $5600. -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+jshul=comcast.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+jshul=comcast.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Jeffery Smith Sent: Tuesday, February 13, 2007 10:22 AM To: Leica Users Group Cc: Leonard Taupier Subject: Re: [Leica] Jeffery PAW - 6 - The Barkus Parade No, it is the "new" Nikon S3. When they first came out with an insane price tag of $5K+, nobody thought anyone would actually buy one to use as a camera. And at that price, Nikon was apparently still losing money on them. B&H now has them for less than half that price, which is apparently below dealer cost. That put them well within a reasonable price when you look at the current price of Leica MP or Leica M7 bodies, or even the Zeiss Ikon body. But the lens is really the selling point of the Nikon S3 2000 kit. You might want to peruse this comparison with the 50/1.4 asph 'Lux. http://www.imagere.com/edsarticles/fast50shootout.htm Please don't flame me, guys. I'm not criticizing Leica. I just like this Nikon. -- Jeffery ---- Leonard Taupier <len-1@comcast.net> wrote: > Jeffery, > > That's a great shot. Love the dog. Boy that film, developer, lens > combination is great.
