Optically and in build quality, the f2.5 is the best, but it's slow not just in aperture terms, but in focus speed too . The 1.4 is faster on both counts, and is optically great from f2.8, but not that marvellous wide open. And although it's fairly solid, it's not bombproof like the new lens. Perfectly good enough for my needs, but then so is the Nokton on my M6 - I can't justify the better glass in either case - but Canon have been acutely aware that many people can. Frank, The issue in the Canon AF system is that the 1.8 version is built somewhat better than the toys given away free at MacDonalds; and the 1.4 version while the build quality is better the performance at 1.4 to 2 leaves a lot to be desired. Therefore, if you use the 50mm focal length a lot the only real choice if you shoot near wide open is the 1.2 version. This is really good marketing by Canon as many users, after using the throw away 18-55 think that the 1.8 fifty is pretty good and the 1.4 is awsome; but people who are used to lenses that might last a couple of years wouldn't touch them unless they could carry a few spares. :) Don don.dory@gmail.com On 12/19/06, Frank Filippone <red735i@earthlink.net> wrote: > > I think I am repeating myself... but F1.2 is 1/3 of a stop faster than > F1.4.
