Jerry Lehrer offered:
>>Of course, some of the exalted were given FREE M8s to use, but they were
forbidden to mention the problems to the unwashed, under pain of
excommunication.<<<

Jerry,
>>some of the exalted were given FREE M8s to use,<<<<<

Actually you really have it all wrong about the above free! Certainly when
you don't know the truth on both sides of a situation! And what came with it
was.... "not to post pictures!"

Besides when one is engaged in testing for any manufacture one doesn't go
blabbing their mouth off in public about their findings. I suppose it's
quite possible you've never been involved in this kind of testing/reporting
activity therefore you can blab all you want about what you think.

The cameras that were "loaned to certain people were because of their
technical skills and years of experience as professional photographers!"
Particularly using Leica cameras of many versions. And were offered for
"TEST PURPOSE ONLY!"

Read this part carefully.. "AND THEY MUST BE RETURNED! PERIOD!!!!!!!
And they were!

So quite frankly no one I'm aware of, exalted or other wise, got to keep
them!!

So before you rag on about very talented people on list who received a
camera for testing and intelligent reports of what their experiences were,
wouldn't you think to get your story right first?

My good fortune actually "using three different M8's" Over the past several
months I have not encountered any of the so called grief others claim in
whatever written reports or posted to various sites.

Maybe some of this has to do with.... "I'm a photojournalist first!" And a
techie freak 13th! The bottom line of this for me, as always with any Leica
or other camera is,..... "How good are the moments captured?" That's it.

However I am known to have offered Leica Canada a little situation about an
R4 replacement several years ago rather than a 4th time of supposedly fixing
a piece of R4 junk! Again!

"Either give me a new R4 or at noon the news media of Toronto will be at
your door step and video tape as well as shoot stills of me smashing this
Leica R4 to a million pieces!" One might say not good PR for Leica! :-)

They thought I was being a tad dramatic and offered to "fix the R4" one more
time, for free! However at noon the news folks were there and before I got
a chance at the first swing to concrete steps I was invited to enjoy my
"brand new in box R4!" Case closed!

I don't molly coddle Leica camera's because I expect them to work, with the
same expectation no different than the M8 to work. All this bitching,
whining is crap as far as I'm concerned....... until I see it from the
cameras in hand! And only then will I accept there's a problem. And only
then will I take it up with leica, not the world of the internet!

OK yer turn.
