I don't think that Leica had any choice but to produce what the market apparently demanded. I hope they succeed or we may not have a Leica company at all. I don't think that the M8 will retain its value and longevity like a film M. What we've seen is extremely impressive and I'm sure it can produce work every bit as good or better and have advantages over a film camera. Just because it is part of the whole digital product cycle, it's in a different product universe to say, an M3 or an M6. Meanwhile, I'm still slowly working to get the best glass I can. All of it will be good on the M8 or 8.2 or whatever. But Walt's remark about analog M's still stays true. It's like buying a house: buying well means being sure that after a number of years the value of it skyrockets. Imagine yourself having a great house that you hope has a certain value, and then, suddenly, a new and superior way of building/living emerges that leads to the devaluation of your property. Great for progression, very bad for those that have put a lot of money into it. Just saying that I follow everything about the M8 in detail, would love to buy one (because it's a rangefinder and it's a Leica, and that's an absolute quality label that I wouldn't mind paying a lot of money for) but decided to wait until a few important issues are really solved. Which is not the same as saying that you will solve them, BTW.
