It is both a design problem with how the M7 and MP spring loads the plastic foot and a quality control problem with the alignment (flatness) of the metal shoe bracket on the camera. On the M6 the base of the shoe has a mild bump in the base to tighten the flash foot. It is stamped into the metal shoe base. It is very smooth on both ends. The M7 and MP have either a flat spring or it's a spring formed as part of the shoe base. The end towards the front of the camera is hooked up so it's possible to grab on the plastic flash shoe when tightened. Secondly, on both of my M7s and Mp the camera shoe rails are not perfectly perpendicular to the base. They are bent in towards the shoe center and make a much tighter fit to the flash foot. It does not allow the shoe spring to relax the way it should for easy removal. I know there are tools to straighten bent shoes but I don't just trust anybody with a $3500 camera body. I'm not even sure I trust Leica given what we've seen with the replacement lens mounts on the 6 bit coding. I'll show the problem to Leica when I see them at their local event on the 18th.
