Subject: [Leica] Newest Kodak emulsions - Free Film

B.D. yes of course Kodak's film business is moribund and this is a P.R.
effort. I wondered if anyone had some specifics on which
film was being promoted. We have seen several recent upgrades to
transparency films from Fujifilm. I have only noticed what appears
to be repackaging of some Kodak films. However I haven't paid close
attention to the Kodak activity recently. This week on a short
break, I exhausted all of the Velvia in my bag and had to locate film
sellers in a small capital city. The friendly Kodak dealer
sold me all of their EliteChrome for a pittance (being very short dated).
There were several rolls marked Vivid Colour, which I
hadn't seen previously. However I then located a Fuji dealer and managed to
stock up on more Velvia; which I promptly exhausted that
day. So a lot of reviewing and some scanning coming up. I shall try the
Kodak films soon.

Cheers
Hoppy

The background is pretty obvious, Hoppy - Kodak, which used to own
photography, now has to give away film to try to hang on to its declining
film business. Speaking of which - has anyone else here experienced digital
dental x-raying? It was quite an amazing experience - and I'm sure is yet
another nail in Kodak's film coffin.

BTW - Kodak is not giving away a "new film emulsion" - It is giving away
samples of its "newest" film emulsions. And that's a big difference. (I
believe they have some "new" formulations of Portra films - at least that's
the only vaguely recent press release they have related to anything "new" in
film.)

Bottom line? It's called P.R.
