I don't think it's a fine idea, my point is that's a defensive idea.

Both are corporations, both are working for themselves and both have  
a considerable user base. Despite how good is the idea of the DNG the  
fact is that they do need the support of the other, so I won't be  
surprised if one part moves at their own peril if the other part try  
to redefine the rules (even for good). No matter how freely available  
is the proposal, it's just extra work for the other part. The only  
difference here is the meaning of the word open, for me means open to  
debate and structuration since the begining.
