Very bright guy from Long Island, dad had a dental practice, etc. After end of freshman year, my buddy announces he was going to study history and become a history professor. All four of us planned to be professors, but he's the only one who took the plunge. Well, his parents nearly disowned him. It was a real crisis. They sent him there to "become a lawyer." The way I interpreted things was that it only worked out in the end because their beach house got washed into the sea and his father had a complete nervous breakdown - so I guess somewhere in all that mess, some priorities got shifted around. That roomate is now, in fact, a professor. The remaining three of us all studied philosophy. Mark went on to get an MFA and is a starving artist photographer in NYC. Jamie and I eventually went into businesss, but the tech startup rough and ready kind. No white shoe lifestyles for us. We all were real nerds in our way, got good marks, etc. But, none of us made all *that* much money, and two of us have made relatively none at all. *Plenty* of grads do go off to law school, med school, biz school and enter the establishment. Sure. But plenty don't. Harvard is worth going to just because it's cool :-) Scott Frank Filippone wrote: >Don, I must agree that you have posted all GOOD reasons to send your kid to >Harvard.....
