Bob, I don't see the described wide light scale as being detrimental to
using slide film. No more than any other occasion where you use transparency
film and must expose it thoughtfully (and I would think, not dissimilarly to
a DSLR regarding not blowing highlights?). Certainly the colour neg has a
greater latitude, as we all know. But think of all of those luscious greens
and ocean blues. Velvia 100F through Leica glass is awfully good.

Regarding the HDR approach of combining multiple separate exposures of the
same scene, I've read another variation recently. A single RAW capture is
converted three times, biasing for highlight, mid-tones, shadow exposure.
Then those three RAW conversions combined.

Can't wait to see what you come back with and post after your trip.

Cheers
Saturated fine grain Hoppy

Gene -

Thanks for the good wishes and advice. Based on the early responses
of you, Frank & Hoppy I'm beginning to think that this expedition
would be an ideal situation in which to try some of this "High
Dynamic Range Photography" I've been reading about, in which you
shoot a few snaps of the same scene on a 'pod at different exposures
and put them together in the All-Powerful Computer.
