Though on the whole photographers have cozied to image manipulation
via technology, this avenue has the potential to create a less benign
economic outcome for photographers. A June Economist
article tangentially referred to using offshore labor and technology
to avoid paying the photographer for "kicking his heels"
In its newly built office block in Chennai, staff are squeezed into
every available corner and computer terminals are used for an average
of 2.2 shifts a day. In one room, software is being used to change the
colours of the clothes worn by models in the glossy catalogues of
Americans retailers--much cheaper than paying the model to change
while the photographer kicks his heels.
