How Europe related, and still relates, to itself, and made religionized and politicized acitivty convertible, is a lesson sorely avoided. It just seems that we've applied the same criteria to economic participation. While we don't kill people for not following religious beliefs within a hegemonic culture in the West, the same can't be said with belief in economic systems. An interesting critic of this has been Wilfred Cantwell Smith. His "The Meaning and End of Religion: A New Approach to the Religious Traditions of Mankind", (1963) is still a good read today. Most people when asked about religious revival assume it is a process that is outward, and coupled with expansionism. In reality, it is an inward event affecting all the major, and minor, traditions as they strive for internal uniformity. Unfortunately, it is done heedless of the human cost. But I think we've entered a topic drift area outside the scope of our "affinity group" criteria.
