Subject: [Leica] What's the Best All-Around 50?

I agree, bokeh can render a nice composition disappointing particularly for 
close focus shots.  My Elmar 65/3.5 visoflex 4 element lens has what I 
would call annoying bokah, it is very high contrast and competes with the 
subject like a jealous mother.  The DR on the other in a similar focus 
range has a more low contrast bokeh with subtile highlights which is more 
complementary to the subject.  The difference it very palpable. I purchased 
the 65 elmar 11162 version specifically for it's improved resolution over 
the 11062 version. Little did I know the higher contrast they threw in 
would essentially ruin many of the macro images.  In color I'm certain they 
would be fabulous.

So it seems that the computational changes for increases contrast tend to 
render a higher contrast bokeh which in some situations can be undesirable 
for B&W images.  For B&W  I found I am more satisfied with the pre ASPH 
lenses which I can only only assume is due to the lower contrast.
